Functionality

A special deactivated transfer tube is used as an interface between the analytical column and the MS source. It is installed like an analytical column. Due to the small ID, entrance of humidity into the MS source while disconnecting the analytical column is reduced to an absolute minimum. Thus, no additional He-purge/make-up gas flow, which might cause sample dilution, is required. With using Swap'n Go the column exchange is completely hand-tight - no tools are required.

One end of the analytical column (200, 250 and 320 µm ID) is fixed only hand-tight to the Swap'n Go adapter by a special designed JAS-Tight nut sealed with a JAS-Tight ferrule. The other end of the capillary column is connected to the S/SL injector my means of a special JAS injector adapter. In case of working with a Thermo GC this kind of adapter is not necessary.

Due to the very narrow inner diameter of the transfer tube very small amounts of air enters the MS while column exchange. Removal of water and nitrogen to levels less than 2% are obtained within 4-5 minutes after column replacement. Under these conditions, the MS detector is ready for operation.

The Swap'n Go Duo system works with 2 parallel installed columns. A switch over is performed automatically by means of the GC control software. Thus, in one sample sequence  different methods using different columns can be performed without column replacement. The operating column uses the carrier gas flow set in the GC-method, while the no-operating column is purged with a low gas flow (0.1 ml/min).
